On September 13, 2025, a small group of our chapter members went to Hollywood, Florida to join ASCE and students from other institutions to Adopt-a-Dune! Together at the beach, we learned about the preservation of the dune environment, its purpose, and how to create it.
Learning the theory is one thing, but actually going there and experience how it is to protect and expand the sand dune environment was a great experience. We were received by an amazing team that taught us the proper way to plant new vegetation, provided the necessary tools, and made us learn so much about the importance of this that it really made us realize the positive impact of what we were doing.
We truly hope to have the opportunity to participate more in these kind of events, and we hope more of our chapter members get involved! There were so many students and professionals the organizers team had to constantly bring more and more plants from the greenhouse! The events was supposed to last until noon, but before 11AM we were already done. We were so happy to see so many people care and are willing to learn about these topics, a very heartwarming moment.
