NSF NRT

NSF RESEARCH TRAINEESHIP PROGRAM (NSF DGE-2021585)

Dr. Jang is participating in the NSF Research Traineeship (NRT) program,NRT-HDR: Graduate Traineeship in Data Science Technologies and Applications, to graduate students in data science technologies and applications. The FAU research team is led by Borko Furht, Ph.D., principal investigator, a professor in the Department of Computer and Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, and director of the NSF Industry/University Cooperative Research Center for Advanced Knowledge Enablement (CAKE), FAU’s College of Engineering and Computer Science. Primary training elements of the curriculum will include the development of normalization courses, the creation of different testbeds for the various application domains, boot-camps, in-depth elective courses, and professional workshops.

Building Smart Cities

FAU ENGINEERING SUMMER CAMP FOR MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS

Dr. Jang developed and led a new summer camp program, Building Smart Cities, as a module for FAU’s Summer Engineering Technology Program, promoting STEM education for grades 7 through 9 in summer 2018. This summer camp program introduced sensing technologies and the Internet of Things (IoT) to campers. Through hands-on activities, campers learned about applying sensor hardware, computing tools, and analytical techniques in large-scale sensor network applications. They were enlightened, noticing interesting science and engineering applications encountered in their daily life that can make cities more livable, efficient, sustainable, and safer.

ISENSE_REU

RESEARCH EXPERIENCE FOR UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS

Dr. Jang mentored undergraduate students in an intensive summer Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program in sensing and smart systems as a mentor. This research program was hosted by Florida Atlantic University’s Institute for Sensing and Embedded Network Systems Engineering (I-SENSE) and funded by the National Science Foundation (CNS-1659484).
